A Daily Prayer for America: Restoring What Was Removed from Our Schools
In 1962, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that a simple, non-denominational prayer was no longer allowed in public schools. That short prayer acknowledged our dependence on God and humbly asked for His blessings upon our children, our families, our teachers, and our nation.
While that prayer was removed from the classroom, it does not have to be removed from our hearts and homes.
Here is a daily prayer, written in the same spirit as the original school prayer. I encourage you and your family to pray it together each morning. Make it part of your daily routine — at the breakfast table, in the car on the way to school, or quietly in your own heart as you begin the day.
Daily Prayer for Our Families, Schools, and Nation
Almighty God,
we acknowledge our dependence upon Thee,
and we beg Thy blessings upon us,
our children and youth,
our parents and families,
our teachers and schools,
and our beloved country.
Lord, guide and protect our young people.
Keep their hearts pure, their minds sharp, and their lives holy in a world that pulls them away from You.
Strengthen our families.
Unite husbands and wives, parents and children in love and faithfulness according to Your Word.
Bless our schools and those who teach.
Grant them wisdom, truth, and a spirit of excellence rooted in reverence for You.
And bless this nation.
Restore righteousness in our land, guide our leaders with wisdom, and cause us once again to be one nation under God.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Amen.
